Sowing Seeds
"The wicked man does deceptive work, But he who sows righteousness will have a sure reward" (Proverbs 11:18 NKJV).
Sowing Seeds
I bought some pumpkin seeds to plant and while looking at the packaging, the names of each kind of seed caught my attention. One is called FAIRYTALE, one is called CASPER, and one is called SOW RIGHT SEEDS. These different names brought to mind the scripture in Galatians 6 and the different types of ‘seed’ that people sow. As born-again believers in Christ Jesus, we are to sow to the Spirit (the good seed given to us by God). But there are many who sow to the flesh (seed given by the world and the enemy, the devil).
Galatians 6:7-8 NKJV
“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.”
Not everyone or everything we read, listen to, or encounter is sowing good seed. There are many who are planting, or trying to plant, corrupt seeds. These people are sowing to the flesh and if you allow them to plant these seeds into your heart and life, you will eventually reap corruption.
These people are following their own ways and the ways of the world. They reject the ways of God, they don’t follow/obey the LORD Jesus, they are not filled with the Holy Spirit, and they are leading many astray. They are walking down the broad road that leads to destruction and many are following them… They are the ‘children of disobedience’ that the Bible tells us about.
You, The children of God, do well to stay far from them and do not follow their ways.
“If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
Therefore, put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience” (Colossians 3:1-6 NKJV)
Let’s look at some seeds that will reap corruption:
FAIRYTALE SEEDS
“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth and be turned aside to fables” (II Timothy 4: 3-4 NKJV).
People who sow fairytale seeds deceive themselves and others by not believing the truth of the gospel. They may say that they believe in God’s word and the Lord Jesus, but live contrary to what the Word teaches. They tend-to pick and choose what scriptures to believe or twist God’s word to fit their own desires.
They may teach others only about the love and blessings of God, purposely leaving out God’s righteous judgement and the coming wrath that will be poured out on all who reject Jesus and disobey Him. They may counsel people to think only of themselves and to do what they think is right in their own eyes, having pride as their guide.
They cause strive and division. These types are unthankful, prideful, slanders, gossips, scoffers, disobedient, unloving, having a form of godliness but denying its power (see II Timothy 3:2-5).
Some of these people may teach that the Word of God is a fairytale. A made-up story, denying their Creator and rejecting the LORD Jesus all together.
Beware of such people…
“For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ” (Jude 1:4 NKJV).
CASPER SEEDS
“And when they say to you, “Seek those who are mediums and wizards, who whisper and mutter,” should not a people seek their God? Should they seek the dead on behalf of the living?” (Isaiah 8:19 NKJV).
Casper the friendly ghost does not exist. There are spirits and there is a spiritual realm, however, the only “friendly Spirit” is the Holy Spirit of God.
People who sow ‘Casper seeds’ are those that seek knowledge, power, and things unknown from sources other than God. These people seek mediums and psychics to find out about their dead loved ones, their future, knowledge about their relationships, all manner of things. They may use tarot cards to get information and Ouija boards to talk to spirits.
They may be involved in the occult by practicing witchcraft, sorcery, and casting spells. They may perform satanic rituals to gain power. All these things are an abomination to the LORD.
These people are opening doors into their lives for evil demonic spirits to come in and reck havoc, chaos, destruction, and death into their lives as well as those that socialize with them. “Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits” (I Corinthians 15:33 NKJV).
BEWARE! HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THEM!
“Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God” (Leviticus 19:31 NKJV).
“There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead.
For all who do these things are an abomination to the LORD, and because of these abominations the LORD your God drives them out from before you.
You shall be blameless before the LORD your God” (Deut. 18:10-13 NKJV).
SOW RIGHT SEEDS
“…but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life” (Gal. 6:8 NKJV).
Sowing to the Spirit will reap everlasting life. The RIGHT Seed is the seed that comes from having received the Holy Spirit by accepting and believing the LORD Jesus. Denying yourself, and the ways of the world, picking up your cross and following Him.
To sow the Right Seed, you must think of others above yourself, putting away your selfishness and pride. Seek the wellbeing of others in love. Have faith in God to help you and empower you to obey Him.
“Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me” (Luke 9:23 NKJV).
Sow the seed of love. Love will cover a multitude of sin. Jesus commanded us to love even our enemies. “But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you” (Luke 6:27 NKJV).
Sow the seed of blessing. “Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse” (Rom. 12:14 NKJV).
Sow the seeds of compassion, kindness, humility, patience, and forgiveness.
“Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender-mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do” (Colossians 3:12-13 NKJV).
Sow the ‘Right’ seed, the kind of seed that will reap everlasting life and bring glory and praise and honor to the LORD; the kind of seed that will be a blessing to others and to you. This kind of seed is well worth the effort. You will not be disappointed…
“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart” (Galatians 6:9 NKJV).
Until next time… May the Lord bless you and smile upon you today and always.
Shalom
