Fiery Arrows
“In addition to all this, take up the shield of Faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one” (Ephesians 6:16 NIV1984).
The shield of faith is one of our pieces of Armor against the attacks of Satan and the spiritual forces of evil. (see Ephesians 6:10)
Notice that Satan’s arrows are on fire, they are described as ‘flaming arrows.’ Satan wants to, and will, send arrows of flaming fire into your life to set aflame areas around you to distract you from God and His purposes for your life.
Satan wants to cause you to take your eyes from Jesus. He will aim his arrows in the areas of your life that God is calling you to have faith in Him. Faith that God will take care of ALL of ‘it’…. whatever ‘it’ may be - God is in control.
Faith is choosing to believe that God is telling the truth, despite that you cannot see the outcome. Faith is acting like God will do what He has promised to do and aligning our hearts and mind with God’s truth.
Satan shoots his flaming arrows at you to distract you from God’s truth. Satan has a tailored made strategy of attack toward you. Satan has studied your habits, fears, weaknesses and tendencies; and aims his arrows in those areas.
A few of the effects we may feel from the fiery arrows of Satan:
Discouragement, frustration, annoyance, depression, confusion, deep-rooted anger, feeling like you don’t matter or that nothing you do matters, feeling like you are not enough.
These can all occur when we take our eyes, (our minds), from Jesus and the truth of God’s promises. The shield of faith gives you the ability to extinguish ALL the flaming arrows of Satan.
Remember, faith is believing that God is who He says He is, and He will do what He says He will do! God is all-knowing, ever-present, and in control of ALL things, all the time – 24/7…. And God does not lie!
Satan is the father of lies, a master at deception, and He hates God. He will attack God’s children (you and Me), and He doesn’t care.
God Loves us and He does care. When God is calling us to walk in faith, let’s pick up our shield and stand firm in God’s truth and believe His promises.
